UPCOMING 1ST-FRIDAY SWING DANCES
No HCD 1st-Friday Swing dance in July.
Friday, August 3, we’ll be dancing to Swingadelic, “New York City Metro’s greatest little big band.” Popular recording artists with seven CDs to their name, they have even performed at the Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing event. Read more about them here, and enjoy a sampling of their music here.
Friday, September 7, we welcome the Hot Cat Jazz Band, who specialize in not only swing but big-band jazz and classic rock as well. Whatever they play, you’re gonna love swinging to their infectious sound. Read about them and enjoy a taste of their music here.
In sheer numbers of dancers, the monthly HCD Swing dance, usually held on the first Friday evening of every month, is our most popular event. It’s not unusual to have more than 200 dancers come out for this dance. And for good reasons: we bring in the best bands from New York City, Boston, and all around New England; the air conditioned West Hartford Town Hall auditorium’s wooden dance floor is truly made for swing; the refreshments couldn’t be better; and there are always lots of eager dancers waiting to dance with you. The dances are from 8:30–11:30, but if you’re newish to swing dancing, come at 7:30 for an hourlong free beginner’s workshop taught by a professional dance instructor. This also allows you to meet a lot of other dancers.
Admission to the dance is $12, $10 for seniors (62+) and students with a school ID. There’s even a way to enjoy the fun for free: volunteer your time for 45 minutes and we waive your admission. To be included on our roster of volunteers, complete the form below with your name, email address, and “I’D LIKE TO VOLUNTEER” in the Subject field.
